MRL Helena Switch
Title:  MRL Helena Switch
Description:  As we were about to head into town, we heard the Helena Switch wanting to go to Montana City. I was always curious when/if they went down there, and you can see that they still do to service the compact Ash Grove Cement plant there. A BN hopper of coal and 4 empty MRL "jimmies" (a term from my first railroad to describe cement cars)

MRL Helena Switch
Title:  MRL Helena Switch
Description:  I fell in love with the MRL after seeing the "Trains" article on it right after they started up. In a sea of Lions Head units, and the latest "image" which is terrible, it is refreshing to see a unit in the original scheme with the original logo. The line to Montana City passes throungh an interesting gulch and the sun decided it would make an appearance for us.

MRL Helena Switch
Title:  MRL Helena Switch
Description:  I'm sure there is more to it than what we see, but this is certainly one of the smallest cement plants I've ever seen! The one that I used to switch when I worked for the Maryland Midland was quite large. Here the Helena Swiotch is backing their train in to the plant. Their outbound cars are over next to the mainline, presumably placed there by Ash Grove's trackmobile (or switcher?)

MRL Helena Switch
Title:  MRL Helena Switch
Description:  The empty jimmies spotted, the Switch goes to spot the coal car and will return to Helena Yard shortly thereafter with 1 empty coal hopper and 4 loaded jimmies. Stay tuned for more!
